Lions, Tigers, Elephants, Alligators…Wild Things Help Children to Heal

Prescott Lion Sculpture

When you see a 14 foot x 10 foot animal sculpture with its head bobbing in the wind, you just have to smile. The sheer size will make you stop, but the artistry will touch your heart.

Fredrick Prescott, the creative genius behind Prescott Scuptures, has been crafting steel sculptures since he was old enough to hold a band saw, punch press, and metal grinder. A watercolor class at age 12 sparked his passion for color, and the rest is history.

Today Prescott’s sculptures grace the grounds of hospitals and children’s health care centers across the country.  The children run up to them, their faces aglow with wonder and delight. They can’t wait to go to the hospital to see the animals! For those little ones with serious conditions who need to be there often, anticipating a visit with a sparkly and shiny moose or alligator is reason enough to be very thankful for Fredrick Prescott’s work.

Using a little make-believe to bring smiles to the faces of children and parents who endure so much is a small price to pay. We hope more hospitals and children’s health care facilities realize the importance of this kind of art for their healing environments.
